Cristiana Sappa est docteur en droit privé en France et en Italie. Elle est professeure de droit des affaires à l’IESEG School of Management, où elle a été responsable de la filière Droit pendant quatre ans (2017-2021) et a dirigé le département Innovation, Entrepreneuriat et Systèmes d’information pendant quatre ans (2021-2025).

Elle est professeur en droit de la propriété intellectuelle à différents publics. Elle a également enseigné le droit international des contrats, le droit des contrats et le droit des sociétés en français et en anglais. Elle a donné et donne cours dans plusieurs écoles de commerce (LUISS en Italie, Helbus en Finlande) et universités (Bucarest, Gênes, Cleveland, Ohio, Osaka).
Avant de rejoindre l’IESEG School of Management en 2016, elle a été chercheuse post-doctorale à l’Université de Turin, Faculté de Droit (2010 – 2012) et professeure assistante à ESCP Europe (2012 – 2014). Elle a également coordonné un projet de recherche interdisciplinaire (EVPSI, 2010 – 2012) et un réseau thématique Européen (LAPSI et LAPSI 2.0, 2010 – 2014).
Ses recherches portent sur le droit d’auteur, les marques, les secrets commerciaux, les données ouvertes et les règles nationales sur le patrimoine culturel. Elle a rédigé des articles publiés dans des revues internationales à comité de lecture, et des chapitres d’ouvrages en anglais, français et italien. Elle est également éditrice de cinq ouvrages sur différents aspects du droit de la propriété intellectuelle. Elle a été chercheuse invitée à l’Institut de la propriété intellectuelle à Tokyo (2025).
Admise au barreau français (EFB), elle est actuellement présidente de l’Académie française des études juridiques en affaires (AFD&M) et membre sélectionnée du sous-groupe d’experts pour l’Espace européen commun de données sur le patrimoine culturel. Elle a également été experte invitée au groupe de travail sur l’IA et le patrimoine au Conseil de l’Europe et possède une expérience en tant que consultante externe de certaines agences des Nations Unies (OIT et OMPI).

Biography

Cristiana Sappa holds a doctorate in private law in France and Italy. She is a professor of business law at IESEG School of Management, where she was head of the Law program for four years (2017-2021) and directed the Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Information Systems department for four years (2021-2025).
She teaches intellectual property law to various audiences. She has also taught international contract law, contract law, and corporate law in French and English. She has taught and continues to teach at several business schools (LUISS in Italy, Helbus in Finland) , and universities (Bucharest, Genoa, Cleveland, Ohio, Osaka).
Before joining IESEG School of Management in 2016, she was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Turin, Faculty of Law (2010–2012) and assistant professor at ESCP Europe (2012–2014). She also coordinated an interdisciplinary research project (EVPSI, 2010–2012) and a European thematic network (LAPSI and LAPSI 2.0, 2010–2014).
Her research focuses on copyright, trademarks, trade secrets, open data, and national rules on cultural heritage. She has written articles published in peer-reviewed international journals and chapters in books in English, French, and Italian. She is also the editor of five books on various aspects of intellectual property law. She was a visiting researcher at the Intellectual Property Institute in Tokyo (2025).
Admitted to the French Bar (EFB), she is currently president of the French Academy of Legal Studies in Business (AFD&M) and a selected member of the expert subgroup for the European Common Data Space on Cultural Heritage. She has also been a guest expert on the Council of Europe’s working group on AI and heritage and has experience as an external consultant to certain United Nations agencies (ILO and WIPO).
